Note: Numbers in [brackets] refer to the diagram index included with the case. Letters in [brackets] refer to the Item list printed on the diagram sheet.

1. After removing the chassis from packaging, remove the side panel by loosening the two thumbscrews [Diagram 1] in the rear, sliding back and lifting. Remove the front bezel by lightly lifting the four plastic hangovers and sliding it off.

2. Within the chassis there should a bag containing items for the case, a power cord, and a diagram sheet. The Diagram sheet provides a list of all the items included with the case, lettered [items A to O].

3. To prepare the chassis to accept drives, specific drive rails need to be installed for 3.5", 5.25", and Hard drives. The PA 810 provides space for 3 5.25" drives (CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-ROM, etc.), 2 3.5" drives (Floppy, Zip, LS120, etc.) and two hard drives mounted in an internal cage. Assemble the Drive rails if necessary, which will be found either in the item bag, or mounted on the side of the 5.25" drive bays. Remove the amount needed for each of your drives. [Diagrams 3, 4, and 5] display which item numbers correspond with each different drive. Install them by inserting one end, and then the other.

4. Remove the necessary front panel drive bay cover(s) for each drive that will be installed, by pinching the sides [Diagram 6]. The PA-810 has two 3.5" drive bays, the lower of which has a metal cover which needs to be unscrewed from the chassis [Item J]. Repeat the same process for the 3 5.25" devices. After the drive bay covers have been removed, use a finger on the left notch to pull out the metal cover [Item I] within the drive bay [Diagram 8].

5. Now, slide the drives into they're corresponding bays, until you here a light click, signaling the drive has been clipped in place by the drive rails. Hard drives need to installed perpendicularly below the 3.5" bays. Flip the drives over (so you can see the circuitry) and slide the drive(s) in with the connections facing outward. Now you can re-attach the Front Bezel.

6. To prepare for motherboard installation, the ATX Input/output Shield [Item H] needs to be installed by letting the top notch into the case cutout, and slipping the bottom until clicks are heard [Diagram 7]. Removing the case fan; by pushing two buttons on the rear of the chassis and sliding the fan off, will ease installation. Now, following the illustration in [Diagram 2], install the retention rail [Item K] by matching the corresponding holes on the motherboard, and rotating it 90 degrees.

7. On the far wall of the chassis, there is a screw holding the plate where the motherboard is to be installed. Unscrew and remove the plate, and see if the 6 preinstalled clips [Item O] match up with your motherboard. If not, reposition them by squeezing the two tabs, and snapping them in the correct location [diagram 10]. Then refasten the plate onto the chassis.

8. Now place the motherboard on the clips, and lower it until you can slide the ports into the I/O shield. Fasten the motherboard screw shown in [Diagram 2]. Using the motherboard's manual, connect the LED lights, power switch, reset switch, speaker, and if your motherboard supports it, the case intrusion alarm. The two fans, one below the hard drive rack, and one below the power supply, should be connected to the motherboard 3-pin fan headers. Consult the motherboard manual if you need help locating them.

9. The installed ATX power supply has three types of connectors: Main Power, Peripheral Power, and Floppy Drive Power. The Main power connector is attached to the motherboard, by clipping into place. Peripheral Power is generally connected to CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, Hard Drives, etc. The Floppy Drive power connector is generally only used to power the floppy and ls-120 drives. Each connector is designed for its respective drive, and should be easily inserted, without much force.

10. Now installation of peripherals may begin by unscrewing the slot covers on the back of the case. Remove as many as needed, and use the Hex/Phillips head screws to refasten. Next install the Processor, ram, and the cooling device. Use IDE and Floppy cables to connect your drives to your motherboard.

11. You can now re-attach the side chassis panel by lowering it into place, sliding it to the front, and fastening the two thumbscrews in the back. Before connecting the power supply cable, make sure your Power supply is correctly set for your particular power outlet. It varies by country; 115V is the American standard. Attach your monitor, keyboard and mouse, along with any other peripherals to be used. Verify that the system powers up. Your Palo Alto 810 chassis is now fully assembled and ready for use.
